Wednesday, June 17, 2009 "We have massive damage."

On Wednesday, June 17th, 2009, straight-line winds in excess of 74 miles per hour destroyed so many trees in Norborne that not one single street was passable for all the trees laying across streets. One the one hand, it was costly in time, man-hours and materials, but at least no loss of life. On the other hand, it was one of the best things to happen to Norborne in a long time. In the weeks that followed the devastating event, friends, neighbors, and strangers gave freely of themselves and worked side-by-side in a common cause, and renewed and strengthened relationships. Hence, the town of Norborne emerged stronger, closer, more determined, with a 'we can get through this' attitude. Perhaps there should be an annual Norborne Tree Day every June 17th to evaluate the appearance of Norborne in commemoration of the event.
